Is the Bible the Word of God?

"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever."      Psalm 12:6 & 7

"For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."                                   Matthew 5:18

When silver is melted down in it’s raw state, all of the impurities come to the top because they are lighter than the silver itself. This is what we call dross. When the silver is then cooled and melted again, it brings more dross to the top. Any refiner knows that to melt down silver seven times will bring forth the purest form of silver possible.

Today, we have a generation that has little knowledge of the Bible. They are committing acts that are an abomination unto the Lord.  Even though they do not know it as sin, they will still be accountable for their actions. Paul enforces this in Romans 7:7.

We live in a world where we are taught that unless we see it, we don't believe it. Jesus said, "Blessed are they that believe, but not have seen." The world teaches, believe and don’t question it, even if it's crazy. For example: Evolution has no evidence, but most books and schools say it is fact. Most believe it. Jesus left us with many infallible proofs that He was indeed the Christ, Son of the Living God.

According to the U.S. Constitution, there has to be at least two witnesses to prove that something has happened.  In I Cor. 15:6, it tells us that Jesus was seen by over 500 people after he rose from the dead.

Some of the topics that we are going to discuss are:

What has set the Bible apart from such books as the Koran?

Hasn't the Bible been translated over and over again and allowed error to creep in?

Hasn't Science proven the Bible is inaccurate in terms of origins, as well as, history?

What has set the Bible apart from such books as the Koran?

The Bible is the only holy book known in existence that tells how the world came into being. The Koran starts with the world already here. This is why the Bible is attacked in regards to origins and not the other "holy" books.

One third of the Bible is written concerning prophecy. Of these prophecies most have been fulfilled. The day Jesus died, he fulfilled 33 prophecies concerning his death. One was that he would not break any bones (Exodus 12:46). When the three men were taken off the crosses, they broke the legs of the two, but when they came to Jesus, he was already dead. So, they pierced his side. When blood and water came out it was a certification of his death.

The Koran, as well as other holy books, gives generalities not as precise as scripture. In the Koran, it calls for the death of all who do not submit to Allah in this life. It even says not to trust Jews or Christians. The scriptures teach us to love our enemies and if they do not repent in this life, they will be judged by God, not by us. Only one "holy book" is right.

Hasn't the Bible been translated over and over again and allowed error to creep in?

In Jesus' time, the original Old Testament Scriptures were gone and had been copied and copied and rewritten, lost, found, rewritten. Jesus still referred to them as the Scriptures. Paul wrote concerning God's word that:

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works."                              I Timothy 3:16

What about today? As to the accuracy of the Hebrew Old Testament, a study was done on 581 manuscripts of the Old Testament. This study involved 280,000,000 individual letters.

Out of 280,000,000 letters, there were 900,000 variants.

Although seemingly large to the reader, it is only one variant in 316 words, which is 1/3 of 1%

Of those 900,000 variants, 750,000 pertained to spelling, whether

the letter should be an I or U. This also has to do with vowel points for the purpose of pronouncing the word.

This leaves 150,000 variants in 280,000,000 letters with one

variant in 1,580 letters, a degree of accuracy of .0006 (6 ten thousandths)

Most of the variants are found in just a few of the manuscripts; in

fact, mostly in just one corrupted manuscript.

The earliest Masoretic Text is dated 900 AD. The earliest Old

Testament Text is the Dead Sea scrolls dating 200 BC. In the Book of Isaiah, only one three letter word was different.

In the New Testament, there are more than 5,000 manuscripts of which it is comprised. There are ancient versions of the Bible, such as the Peshitta Bible, that date as early as 150 AD. We also have quotes from the early church fathers such as Polycarp, who sat at the feet of the Apostle John.  If all we had were the letters from these men, we could still construct the word of God.

Hasn't Science proven that the Bible is inaccurate in terms of origins, as well as, history?

In regards to the origins of mankind, which one is correct?  Paul warned Timothy in regards to "science falsely so called" in I Timothy 6:20.  The theory of Evolution teaches that the universe is billions of years old. The Bible tells us that the universe is less than 8,000 years. Did you know that all the evidence that we have indicates that the universe is consistent with the Bible?!

In the area of Archeology, not one piece of artifact has been found

to contradict the Bible. It has only indicated that the Bible is authoritative in matters of history.

To those who are searching, the greatest mystery of all is where will you spend eternity. Where will you spend it.

To the Christian, are you searching for God’s will in your life? Have you found it?

The Bible is the very Word of God!

Special Note: Psalms 12:7 The term "Thou shalt keep them" has received attack from scholars of today. They say that because of the construction of the Hebrew, this passage has to do with his people, not his word. John Wesley, who wrote grammars for Greek and Hebrew, said that the construction of the Hebrew allows for this and believed that it referred to his word. John Calvin also believed that the Hebrew allowed for this translation.
